About Me

Terrence O'Keefe

Kia Ora Tēnā koutou and welcome to O'Keefe Wood Carving.  Please have a wander around and enjoy, this page is just a wee bit about me and what I do.

My bro Jonny brought me my first set of chisels and I've been carving ever since.   I have been lucky to have met some very talented people who showed me their skills and taught me a lot about carving, enabling me to be part of some special work around New Zealand.  I learnt from the best and continued from there.

One of the first carvings I completed was an eagle catching a snake, a present for my Dad.  I continued to make gifts for friends and family and then became lucky enough to be accepted into the gallery Te Toi Mana in Christchurch, where my work was displayed and sold until the post earthquake closure.  Working at a local Maori musuem allowed me to be immersed in the culture that inspires me and after carving my first piece based on the collection by C.F.Goldie I knew I wanted to do more.

Being surrounded by countryside in rural Canterbury out on the Banks Peninsula has been the basis of many of my carvings, re-creating lost forest back into the culture in which it started.  I have had the loving support of my family throughout my life allowing me to do what I love and continue to do so.

I work on commissions as well as creating pieces for general sale.  Each piece is designed to fit your own requirements and to capture the authenticity of cultural pieces and therefore priced individually.  If you would like a quote please contact us for a chat.  New pieces are always being created, so if you would like to know what is in stock for sale at the moment, please contact us.
